Short but sweet

This is the first of Kurt Vonnegut's books I have read and I instantly fell in love. I won't write much, because it is difficult to find words that do his written work justice.

He does not write like a stuffy academic even though his thoughts perhaps surpass theirs intellectually.

He doesn't need to dress up his ideas with complicated jargon, because he can write in the most simple and accessible way and his work is still bewilderingly brilliant.

Insightful, intelligent and at all times with a sense of humour.

Now there is someone worth reading.

So Frenchy, so Chic-y

I love this cheeky video featuring Brigitte Bardot and her song Ca Pourrait Changer (That could change). I thought this was a fitting start to kick off what I'm sure will be a number of France-related posts. Enjoy

a return

I always wonder what drives me to blog.

Why I started again, why I stopped or why I started in the first place. I like that it can be a visual diary for my mind. It slows down those moments in time filled with those thoughts and teases them out. There is a myriad of things going on around me and blogging helps me to sit and think about things. It also captures all those thoughts; intriguing, inane, insane or whatever they may be and stores them for me.

As tempting as it was to start yet another blog afresh I’ve come back to this original one because it has been the most honest reflection of myself and my thoughts. Through my various phases of passionate interests occasionally blogs have sprung up along the way, but part of the challenge and the charm of living, or perhaps it is just my erratic personality, is that I can’t be just one thing too long. This blog has a freedom to it, with no rules.

It started as an ode to San Francisco, a love letter if you like. Each post about whatever was happening in my world was accompanied by a photo of the city I had fallen in love with, without ever setting foot in. It is where the name “Until the Day I Run Away” came from. It was until I left to discover San Francisco for myself.

It evolved into photographs as I fell in love with photography and I began capturing images of all things great and small.

And so on it evolved and changed.

Today it’s a place to linger, to tease out those thoughts swirling around my head before they disappear into the whirlpool of thoughts that clutter my mind.

Am I back?

I'm not entirely sure. I still have my tumblr, which I mostly post pictures on and occasionally write on. I guess any medium will do. I just can't stick to anything for too long, I've found. I need such long breaks of quiet, after a flurry of activity.

The last week or so I've felt very frustrated and bored. I have just completed painting my room, ripping up the carpet, polishing the floor boards and building my new bed, so perhaps I was just tired and well and truly spent.

However whenever I had free time, I had no idea what to do. Where were all my ideas that were dying to get out? Even when they are silly ideas there are always ideas there, or something to dream about. Where was my curiosity? I had no interest to continue learning the things I was learning or to explore. I had hired a few movies from work, and I kind of just wanted to watch them and not do anything else while doing so. To just escape for a few hours. But from what? Was I just trying to pass the time?

I am feeling a little more re energised this morning, I am happy to say. It's a slow start though and I'm not exactly sure what I'll be passionate about next, but I'm coming up with a few possible options....

- Continue learning French, because it is a beautiful language. Plus once I have that down pat, I can try another. I love languages. They are like these beautiful keys to other people. To talk with them, to share their stories, to understand people who don't see the world like I do.
- Cook things myself. Things that I could just buy from the store but would taste better and have less preservatives and would be of more value to me if I made them myself.
- Keep exploring and learning for this collection of notes, somewhat like a book, I am creating.
It's non fiction, surprisingly. And I just had a marvellous idea for it.
- Clean up my room...stupid boxes everywhere.
- Continue reading "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand.
- Continue reading "Eva Luna" by Isabel Allende.
- Continue reading "Vanity Fair" by William Makepeace Thackery
- Continue reading "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert
- Continue reading "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D.H. Lawrence
- Continue reading some of the interesting looking pscyhology lectures from Open Yale.

Thats about all that I can think about for now.

Whirlwind

I've created a tumblr, which is blue and makes me feel more tranquil to look at. It's more filled of thoughts, rather than ideas and reflections rather than plans. It's for my quiet moments rather than my busy ones.

This blog is the latter, and will continue to hold my projects, ideas and brainstorming. Coming soon ( once I've finished a heap of assessment) is my room makeover. I'm looking forward to it.

My tumblr is updated more frequently with photos because photos are easier to upload there, so here is the link:
